How is Tech Valley High School governed?
Tech Valley High School is governed by an operating board. This board consists
of 10 members who have been selected from the existing members of the Capital
Region BOCES and Questar III boards of education. Board members are: Paul
Puccio of Schodack, president; Jeff Bradt of Cohoes, vice president; Sandra
Beloncik of Rotterdam; John Bergeron of Schenectady; Edmund Brooks of Valatie;
Robert Gibson of Troy; Nancy Knabbe of Ghent; Kevin Kutzscher of Sharon
Springs; Lynne Lenhardt of Delmar; and Carol Orvis of Rensselaer.
How is Tech Valley High School administered?
A principal serves as the chief academic officer, overseeing the instructional
leadership responsibilities of Tech Valley High School. A director of
institutional advancement is responsible for fund-raising, partnerships with
business, higher education, government and organized labor. Other
administrative positions may become necessary as the school grows to its full
capacity.
The first principal and chief academic officer of Tech Valley High School is
Daniel Liebert, with 21 years in public and private education. He has
extensive experience in teaching and creating curriculum and professional
development programs for teachers as well as extensive knowledge of 21st
century learning skills and the New York State learning standards. In addition
to his teaching experience, Mr. Liebert was a research associate at the
National Association of State Boards of Education and the Council of Chief
State School Officers. He assumed the position in November 2006.
The first director of institutional advancement is Raona Roy, who oversaw the
growth of the Arts Center of the Capital Region from a small local program to
one of the region’s preeminent arts organizations. She assumed the position in
November 2006.
What organization has responsibility for fiscal
oversight?
As detailed in the intermunicipal agreement that makes this unprecedented
collaboration possible, Questar III conducts the business operations for the
school on behalf of the Tech Valley High School operating board. Capital
Region BOCES provides internal auditing services and technology through the
Northeast Regional Information Center (NERIC).
What is Tech Valley High School’s connection to
Capital Region BOCES and Questar III?
Capital Region BOCES and Questar III provide supervision to the school as they
currently do for other BOCES programs. Tech Valley High School participates in
various BOCES services to avoid duplication of services and be cost-effective.
What is the role of the district superintendents of
Questar III and Capital Region BOCES in Tech Valley High School?
The district superintendents provide supervision and support to Tech Valley
High School, much as they do in their respective roles in each BOCES. The
details of that supervision are addressed in the intermunicipal agreement
between the two BOCES.
