Tech Valley High School - Frequently Asked
Questions
Facilities at Tech Valley High School
Does Tech Valley High School meet the requirements of NYS Safe Schools
Against Violence in Education Act (SAVE)?
Yes. Tech Valley High School is committed to creating and maintaining a safe
learning environment for students. All the requirements that apply to other
schools apply here as well.
Where is Tech Valley High School located?
Tech Valley High School is located initially at Pitney Bowes Software
(formerly MapInfo headquarters) at One Global View in the Rensselaer
Technology Park, Troy. The school is now looking for a permanent location in
western Rensselaer County in the I-90 corridor and is scheduled to open in
September 2009.
Will Tech Valley High School be new construction or a
retrofitted existing building?
That decision has not yet been made. A variety of options are being explored
by the Facilities Team.
What are the next steps in designing the permanent
facility?
An architectural firm, Architecture Plus, has been engaged to work with the
Facilities Team to develop, prepare and issue an RFP inviting proposals from
area design/build teams to site and develop the school. The architects will
work closely with the principal, teachers, administrators and Learning Team to
develop the architectural program and criteria for the school. The RFP is
expected to be issued in early 2008. Proposals will be evaluated and a
contract will be awarded in spring 2008. The Facilities Team includes
teachers, students and administrators as well as area leaders from higher
education, business, technology, organized labor and government. It is chaired
by William F. O’Connor III, AIA, a registered architect with a distinguished
career in public service. Currently, he is the expansion project director of
the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, Williamstown, Mass., where he
is overseeing a $135 million facilities expansion project.
