Tech Valley High School - Frequently Asked
Questions
Costs
for Districts Participating in Tech Valley High School
What is the cost to districts to send a student to Tech Valley High School?
The cost paid by districts for each student to participate is $18,000 for
2008-09, the same as for 2007-08.
Is there BOCES aid for participation in Tech Valley
High School? When does the district receive the state aid? Is there a lag?
BOCES aid is available for participation in Tech Valley High School in the
following fiscal year, just as it currently is for all BOCES-aidable programs.
For example, a district sending one student to Tech Valley High School in
2008-09 would receive BOCES aid for the expense in the 2009-10 fiscal year.
Capital expenses – which are not expected until the 2009-10 school year – are
aided in the current year.
How are school districts billed?
Billing occurs in the same fashion as other BOCES programs, such as Career and
Technical Education and the New Visions program.
Who is responsible for providing textbooks?
Textbook costs are included in the tuition, similar to other BOCES programs.
Are there additional costs for parents beyond the
typical high school supply costs?
There may be additional costs, like in any school, for field trips or to take
college-level courses. A typical high school student working to earn college
credit in high school normally pays a reduced rate for the credit hours,
typically about $115 per course. Articulation agreements are currently being
developed with colleges and universities throughout Tech Valley.
How are students transported to Tech Valley High
School? What is the cost? Who pays for it?
Students are transported by bus to the school. Transportation is provided and
paid for by the student’s home school district as they are for other BOCES
programs, i.e., Career and Technical Education programs and the New Visions
program. The current state aid formula for transportation applies. Other
configurations for transportation have been developed and implemented by
participating school districts and through the BOCES. These include sharing of
transport services and the development of “shuttle” services from remote
locations to Tech Valley High School.
