Robert Gibson
Robert Gibson was first elected to the Questar III
Board of Education in 1993 and has served as its president since the
2001-2 school year. He previously served on the Board of Education
of the Brittonkill Central School District from 1980 though 1989,
serving as it President from 1981 - 1989, when he retired from the
Board. During this time he was a presenter at meetings of the New
York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA), member of the NYSSBA
Resolutions Committee, and was a presenter at the 1984 National
School Boards Association Conference.
Since his election to the Questar Board he has frequently presented
workshops on parliamentary procedures for new school board members,
served as voting delegate at NYSSBA Annual Conventions, served on
two NYSSBA special committees, and was a member of the NYSSBA
Resolution Committee for two years. In 2003 he was a member of the
CASDA Select Seminar on the "Challenges and Opportunities of NCLB."
Mr. Gibson received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from
SUNY Albany. He is currently the University Registrar at the
University at Albany and previously served as Associate Dean for
Undergraduate Studies and Director of the Advisement Services
Center. On campus he has been active in various committees,
including the Educational Policies Council and the University
Senate, where he serves as parliamentarian. He is a recipient of the
Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Administrative Services.
Mr. Gibson has previously held volunteer positions as President of
the Northeast Association of Pre-Law Advisors, Chair of the Pre-Law
Advisors National Council, President of the SUNY Registrar’s
Association, and five years as president of his church council. He
continues to volunteer as parliamentarian for the Science Teachers
Association of New York State (STANYS) Board of Directors.
Mr. Gibson grew up in Columbia County, graduating from Germantown
Central School District and spent summers working in Greene Country
during his college years. He and his wife, Donna, who is a trainer
for Literacy Volunteers of America New York State and for the
National Institute for Literacy, reside in Center Brunswick. They
are parents of a married son who is a graduate of Brittonkill and
the University at Albany.
