Bodies littered a hallway at TVHS on Friday. In a classroom, students painted a brick facade onto a cardboard box.

The activity and bodies were all part of freshmen game class' preparation for it's latest project - creating a 21st century  version of the 17th century Shakespeare classic - Julius Caesar.

Students in Jen Hower's class are reading the classic updating scenes from it with a 21st Century spin.

The project is designed not just to ensure that the 9th grade students read the play, but that they also truly understand, Hower said.

She said the students are taking various spins on the classic, with some students adopting a "Valley Girl" theme and language and others adopting a techno-theme.

By putting the play into the own words, they must understand what Shakespeare wrote, Hower said.

On Monday, the students will act out their version of the play on the stage of the Capital Rep Theater. The skits will begin at 11:30 a.m.
