A senior forecaster from the National Weather Service helped Tech Valley High School freshmen better understand forecasting during a visit on Tuesday.
Brian Montgomery met with ninth graders in an integrated Environmental Science/Algebra 1 course and explained the process weathermen go through in forecasting storms, like the one forecast to bring snow and rain to the Capital Region on Wednesday.
Teacher Michelle Sweeny said his presentation coincides with a project the students are undertaking in which they are gathering weather data and using trends to predict weather conditions. They are then comparing how well they predicted the weather to the probability of just guessing the weather.
The project reinforces the students' understanding of weather, science and math.
