Information sessions to begin
01.11.10
The first two information sessions for Tech
Valley High School will be conducted the week of January 10.
The sessions will be conducted January 12 at Tech Valley High School
in East Greenbush and January 14 at Schoharie Junior/Senior High
School. Both sessions begin at 6 p.m. and open to parents of middle
and high school students.
Tech Valley High School is located at the University at Albany East
Campus, B Wing, 9 University Place in East Greenbush. Schoharie
Junior/Senior High School is located at 136 Academy, Dr. in
Schoharie.
The school, which teaches 21st Century skills through project-based
learning, is recruiting for the freshmen class that would begin in
September, as well for the sophomore and junior classes.
TVHS has won praise from all involved with it, from parents to the
state Education Commissioner. The juniors, who hail from more than
two-dozens Capital Region and mid-Hudson Valley schools, have been
working since October on a massive sculpture - the largest piece of
which is a 14-foot high diamond shaped object - that will hang in
the arcade of the historic Schenectady theater.
“The (students) results are good and at the same time there is a sense of purpose, sense of understanding why you’re doing what you’re doing and why you’re learning what you’re learning,” said Education Commissioner David Steiner.
“By attending TVHS, John has learned the importance of being respectful with his peers, teachers, and all he comes into contact with. Because of TVHS and the exposure John has had to business and university leaders … he has goals to work towards, and is learning how to reach those goals,” said Stacey Sicko, a parent of a sophomore.
