TVHS drew its largest crowd ever to its first information session on Tuesday with more than 100 people attending the session at Tech Valley High School. A second session on Thursday in Schoharie drew nearly two-dozen people, which represented a sizable crowd for farthest-most drawing point in the TVHS district, Principal Dan Liebert said.
"We have had a fantastic turnout so far, our largest ever," said Principal Dan Liebert.
During Tuesday's session, 36 students from 15 school districts, along with parents and peers, led to about 110 people being present for presentations by TVHS faculty, staffs and nine current TVHS attendees.
At Thursday's session in Schoharie, counselor Dean Walker, teacher Mary VanHoomissen, parents and students presented to a crowd of seven prospective students who were accompanied by their parents and peers.
“We have had a great opportunity for students interested in TVHS to talk with current students, meet with faculty, and parents can discuss the school with current parents and have all of their questions about enrollment answered. We are thrilled to be able to welcome the class of 2014 and discuss our school with prospective students," said Liebert.
He also noted that while the information sessions are geared to incoming freshmen, TVHS does have openings in its 10th and 11th grades and prospective students in those grades are welcome to attend the sessions to learn more.
Tech Valley High School is located at the
University at Albany East Campus, B Wing, 9 University Place in East
Greenbush.
The regional public high school, which teaches 21st Century skills through project-based learning, is conducting a series of information sessions.
The school has won praise from all involved with it, from parents to the state Education Commissioner.
“The (students) results are good and at the same time there is a sense of purpose, sense of understanding why you’re doing what you’re doing and why you’re learning what you’re learning,” said Education Commissioner David Steiner.
“By attending TVHS, John has learned the importance of being respectful with his peers, teachers, and all he comes into contact with. Because of TVHS and the exposure John has had to business and university leaders … he has goals to work towards, and is learning how to reach those goals,” said Stacey Sicko, a parent of a sophomore.
