Students unveiled their month's long creation featuring a new universe on Friday at  Proctor's Theater.

The students have been working since October on a massive sculpture - the largest piece of which is a 14-foot high diamond shaped object - that now hangs in the arcade of the historic Schenectady theater. During the past week, students and teachers spent dozens of hours handing and installing the art work - the largest piece of which is 14-foot in height.

The work will be in display in the theater for at least six months.

"It was a very nice, fantastic gathering," said Principal Dan Liebert of the unveiling.

Owning to one of the tenets of  Tech Valley High School - that students work with experts from the community on project - the budding TVHS artists worked with electronic artists Jesse Stiles, who helped animate the project, and seamstress Lynn Kopka, who helped the students sew nylon and rip-stop fabric that will serve as a backdrop.

The artwork - which hangs in a three-story section of the theater - depicts a new universe after the existing universe was destroyed, teacher Ed Coolidge said.

"This was a lot of fun because we get to show our work where people can see it," said junior Becca Sturn.

Fellow junior Molly Ennist said projects like this artwork make being a student at Tech Valley High enjoyable.

“I like that it’s hands-on. It’s stuff that makes sense. It’s relative to the world,” she said.
