Vision: Tech Valley High School serves as a model in the region, the state and beyond of innovative public education that is based in strong partnerships and focuses on educating and inspiring students to embrace the increasingly important world of math and science.

Mission: Tech Valley High School provides a unique and innovative student-centered educational opportunity, engages students in current emerging technologies and supports the growth and economy of the region.

"From the standpoint of the New Technology Foundation, I think Tech Valley High School has the potential to be the best school we've been associated with. Nothing like this is going on in Silicon Valley, in Austin, Texas, in the Research Triangle – in the communities you are competing with. This is the only school that I'm dealing with that has this kind of community support."

director of strategic planning,

Before Dr. John Kelly III, senior vice president and director of IBM Research, IBM Corporation, gave more than 500 business leaders an update on the future of Albany and Tech Valley -- and IBM's commitment to the region, he spent several hours at Tech Valley High School -- and left, in his words: "impressed, excited and in admiration" - with the promise to return soon for an update.

Dr. Kelly, in Albany on April 10, visited Tech Valley High, where he met with students, teachers, administrators and partners for an update on the school's progress since it opened in September 2007. He saw how the students and teachers are using technology in every aspect of learning and was impressed to see a new education model in the making. He also experienced first-hand how project-based learning and business involvement with the school is shaping education for the 21st century.

Dr. Kelly shared with the students: "I admire each of you. You have taken a huge personal risk, and you had the guts to try. You will have a huge advantage. You will be much more competent and competitive in the world; working in teams, self- and team-reliance, problem-solving... There's nothing I have done at IBM that has been without a team."

Dr. Kelly's final words: "You have a tremendous advocate in me. I'm very interested in what you're doing here, and we'll be back to check in on this experiment from time to time."

IBM has been a supporter of the school since its conception. Kevin Leyden, a solution executive at IBM in Albany, has been working closely with Tech Valley High for the past five years. He co-chairs the Business Alliance for Tech Valley High School, a group of 29 businesspeople, entrepreneurs and technology leaders, which provides ongoing connections for the school, its teachers and students with the real world of work and with developments in the regional and global economy.

"Tech Valley High School thanks Dr. Kelly, Mr. Leyden and IBM for their continued commitment to the Tech Valley High initiative and for their role in the phenomenal growth of Tech Valley," said Dan Liebert, TVHS principal.
