Area Leaders Named to Tech Valley School Foundation
Four area leaders were recently elected to serve on the Tech Valley
School Foundation:
Eileen R. Lindburg, vice president, CB Richard Ellis, Albany; Dr. Barbara Nagler,
retired district superintendent of Capital Region BOCES; and Dale M. Thuillez, special counsel to
the law firm of Thuillez, Ford, Gold, Butler & Young, LLP, Albany, will serve on the board of directors of the Tech
Valley School Foundation. John Cavalier, retired chairman of the board of MapInfo Corporation, was
re-elected foundation president.

Commissioner Mills
visits Tech Valley High
New York State Education Commissioner Richard Mills arrived early and
left late when he made his first visit to Tech Valley High School recently. He was joined by Regent Joseph Bowman.
Their enthusiasm was evident as they met the school's 40 freshmen, parents, principal and teachers and saw the
Tech Valley High model in action - from students working on exciting real-world projects to teachers explaining
how they developed unique courses that
meet NYS Learning Standards.

Commissioner Richard Mills, left, said, "This is a wonderful model of what a small high school could be."
Commissioner Mills and Dr. James N. Baldwin, district superintendent of Questar III, watch as Kyle White, a TVHS
student from the Catskill Central School District, works on a project. The technology platform, a 1:1
student-to-computer ratio, is one of the characteristics that sets this public school apart.

Why did you decide to attend TVHS?
"I felt it would be a challenge and a new way of learning. I
attended the Tech Valley Summer Camp and thought that was a cool way of learning. The main reason was for the
challenge. Middle school was fairly easy for me & I wanted to challenge myself."
What has been your favorite project at TVHS so far?
"My favorite project was 'J-term.' I liked the freedom to choose my
topic and final product.

Spotlighting a TVHS Partner
Before Dr. John Kelly III, senior vice president and director of IBM
Research, IBM Corporation, gave more than 500 business leaders an update on the future of Albany and Tech Valley
-- and IBM's commitment to the region, he spent several hours at Tech Valley High School -- and left, in his
words: "impressed, excited and in admiration" - with the promise to return soon for an update.

WHAT:Participants will explore the need for 21st century learning skills and experience the Tech
Valley High School model. They will see how it can serve as an education model that addresses the needs of this
century by preparing students for the college experience and/or the local and global workforce.

Study Tours
These three-hour tours are designed for educators interested in
learning more about a 21st century model that is based on different ways of learning and teaching. They will
include a look at principles and practices, and provide an opportunity to observe them in the classroom as well as
time to discuss this academic approach with the students, teachers and principal. The Spring tours are scheduled
