Questar III and Capital Region BOCES are partnering to develop Tech Valley High School. Both are a Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). There are 37 BOCES in New York State.
Questar III provides more than 250 instructional and support services to its 23 component school districts with about 40,000 students in Rensselaer, Columbia and Greene counties of New York State. Questar III also provides additional services to approximately 580 school districts and all 37 BOCES in New York State.
Through Questar III, school districts can offer programs and services more economically, efficiently and equitably by sharing their costs. These programs and services are offered in the following areas: Career and Technical Education, Special Education, General Education and District Support Services.
The name Questar III reflects an evolution in the organization’s role and mission that has taken place over the last decade. "Quest" stands for the educational journey and our search for excellence; "Star" for the brilliance of our programs, staff and students; and "III" for the three counties we serve.
As an innovative organization characterized by visionary and steadfast leadership, the mission of Questar III is to promote the growth of individuals as contributors to our diverse society and to link and augment the capability, quality and efficiency of school districts and other agencies through a commitment to achievement, advocacy and accountability.
For
the nearly 40,000 elementary and secondary students in the three-county
area, Questar III means choices and opportunities in education. Whether
they are interested in exploring career and technical opportunities,
seeking alternatives to the traditional classroom setting, or in need of
support of physical or emotional disabilities, Questar III offers programs
and services designed to help all students succeed. Adult students can
earn their high school diploma through one of many programs tailored to
meet their educational and personal needs. Career and job skills training
programs are also available in fields such as licensed practical nursing,
metal technologies, and security and law enforcement.
For school districts, Questar III support services like state aid planning, legal and labor relations, staff development, health and safety and communications provide the expertise of professionals in the field, as well as valuable connections to resources around the state.
For parents, there is understanding and support from teachers, therapists and other specialists whose goal is to help students, from preschoolers to high school seniors, reach their potential and prepare for challenges in their lives.
Questar III employs approximately 550 in four divisions: Career and Technical Education; Special Education; General Education; and District Support Services. Additionally, Questar III oversees the Eastern New York Regional School Support Center (ENYRSSC), Bilingual Education Technical Assistance Center (BETAC) and New York State CTE Resource Center. Capital Region BOCES delivers more than 160 educational and administrative services to its 24 component school districts and to the City School District of Albany. Combined, these districts educate more than 81,000 students in the New York State counties of Albany, Schoharie, Schenectady and Saratoga. In addition, Capital Region BOCES provides many services to approximately 120 school districts outside the Capital Region.

of all ages and academic levels participate in programs offered through
Capital Region BOCES to prepare for today’s competitive, fast-paced world.
Capital Region BOCES delivers opportunities for students at an affordable
cost such as enrichment programs; and hands-on experience with local
businesses; technical and creative career exploration opportunities,
innovative programs for students with special needs, and programs for
adult learners.
Educators in school districts throughout New York also look to BOCES for reasonably priced assistance with their day-to-day operations while they focus on meeting state and federal demands for student performance. Capital Region BOCES provides affordable management and administrative services such as superintendent searches, installation and maintenance of centralized computer and telephone networks, risk management training, grant writing, development of web sites and publications, substitute teacher coordination, security systems and training, and storing and analysis of student data.
