Social-Emotional Well-Being

We recognize that the social emotional well-being of our students and staff during these challenging times is critically important. Tech Valley High School has made available resources and referrals to address mental health, behavioral, and emotional needs of students, faculty, and staff when school reopens for in-person instructions. Students will have access to both the administration, guidance counselor and school social worker.  Staff will have access to the Employee Assistance Program through Questar III BOCES: ESI group. https://www.theeap.com/. Staff can access an informational brochure about the EAP services provided here. EAP phone contacts are: (800) 252-4555 or (800) 225-2527

The School Culture Committee will work with the Parent Activity Council (PAC) to organize activities that are appropriate for promoting social-emotional health of our students while in remote learning.  Tech Valley High School plans to continue to hold mixed-grade advisory sessions for students to interact in small groups with their faculty advisor.  The PAC is already planning whole-school events that can build and preserve our culture in a remote environment.

As part of our orientation and advisory programs, we will make students aware of the counseling services available through our school social worker, Scott O’Leary: soleary@techvalleyhigh.org 518-862-4987 and our school counselor, Laura Lee: llee@techvalleyhigh.org 518-862-4961. Our comprehensive developmental school counseling program plan has been reviewed and updated to meet current needs.

Tech Valley will offer professional development opportunities for faculty and staff on how to talk with and support the social and emotional well-being of students through the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis.

We offer the following resources for families and staff to reference when addressing social-emotional well-being care.  http://www.nysed.gov/reopening-schools/social-emotional-learning
