Welcome back letter to families

Dear Tech Valley High School Families,

We hope you are all having a wonderful summer. We are looking forward to coming back together as a community for a year of learning, trust, respect, responsibility, and stewardship. Included in this letter is important information about the start of the school year.

The 2022-2023 School Calendar is attached. We welcome 9th grade students for the first day of school on Tuesday, September 6. All students return on Wednesday, September 7.

We will have a PAC meeting on Tuesday, August 16 via Zoom at 7:30PM. This will be an opportunity to get questions answered and hear an overview of the school year. Parent Activities Committee (PAC) appreciates your support for programs we help at TVHS such as the Picnic, Senior Luncheon, and social activities for students during the school year. PAC does not require dues but will welcome donations at any time.

Our annual TVHS Summer Picnic is on! The picnic will be held at Tawasentha Park in the large pavillion on Thursday, August 25 from 5PM-7PM. Families are
welcome. Please see the attached invitation for the RSVP link.

School Day: School hours for TVHS are 7:50am-2:50pm. Students are able to come in and gather in the MPR prior to 7:50am. We serve breakfast during that time. After school, there will be extra help scheduled on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:00-3:50. Students should be picked up promptly at 3:50. If students are dropped off in the morning or picked up after school, cars should park in the lot across from school. The loop is for buses only.

Transportation: Transportation to and from TVHS is arranged by the individual school district. We strongly encourage parents to communicate with your home district’s transportation department to verify pick up time and location. Please let us know if there are any issues.

Attendance: Being present and on time sets a student up for success. If your child will be late or absent, please call or email the school with the reason for the absence by 8:30am. If a student is ill, we encourage them to recuperate at home. We are required to send a letter home at intervals when a student is absent starting at 10 days absent.

School Lunch: At Tech Valley, we use Capital Region BOCES Food Services
Program. Please see our website for information and menus:
https://www.techvalleyhigh.org/parents-students/food-service/
To pay for breakfast and lunch, students will use an account through the Titan
Family Portal. All instructions are on the website above. Money can be added.
If you might qualify for free/ reduced lunch, we encourage you to fill out the online enrollment form available on the website here. Questions can be directed to susan.frank@neric.org or Susan Frank at (518) 464-5133.
Students can access their lunch funds by inputting a private ID number.

Health Guidance: At this time, we are awaiting guidance from NYS Department of Health and Education Department regarding COVID and other health guidance for the 22-23 school year. We will update families as soon as we have more information. Please look out for an email from school outlining any guidance we are to follow from the state. We are not expecting to continue with the daily health screening form.

School Supplies: A list of school supplies will be posted on our website by Friday, August 26.

Forms attached: The acceptable use form must be signed and returned before
your child receives their TVHS computer. It is expected on the first day of school. The field work form will allow for students to go on day trips connected to their class. Parents will receive communication from the teacher prior to any trips. We can also collect any and all forms at the Picnic or the first day of school.

NEW THIS YEAR
Parents will receive an email from SchoolTool during the month of August inviting you to your SchoolTool account. Through your SchoolTool account, parents can view student schedules, report cards, and also family contact information that has been provided to the school. If you would like to request a paper copy of your report card, please contact our office.

Student schedules will be posted on SchoolTool on Wednesday, August 31.

We hope you enjoy the remainder of the summer! Please reach out should you
have any questions.

Sincerely,

Amy W. Hawrylchak
